Fair Goers:

  1. Thank you to those getting resumes posted on Handshake! I still have 58 to go – but we are getting there.  Please do not be discouraged if I decline your resume, I just really want it to look great for fair!
  2. I have posted events for next week for preparation for fair. I have made half hour sessions – to make them more manageable.  I have put topics on the times BUT don’t worry too much about the session title….I will try to answer the questions you have.  These are a good thing to attend as I have DOOR PRIZES!
  3. Ok….we are 94 resumes posted on the fair site (mnpcfair.org). Let’s go over 100 today!  It only takes a few minutes.
  4. I gave you a list of the basics: get to the fair, be dressed professionally with what you need and a list of employers to meet with. Some more things to do:
    1. com: If you don’t have a LinkedIn.com profile – make one! If you don’t have one employers do not think you are a serious candidate for internships or jobs.   Go to  www.university.linkedin.com/linkedin-for-students for 1 – 5 minute videos on making a good profile and using LinkedIn.
    2. Research employers of interest to you: With so much info on the web and on the fair site – they EXPECT you to know what they do, where they are, the basics of their size, products, etc.
    3. Prepare of Interviews: This is really important as more interviews happen at this fair than you expect. For assistance see the pdf booklet on the Career Development webpage.  Also, use InterviewStream to practice.  Or, come to a session next week.
  5. Peer Career Advisers will be back starting next week from 5-8 in Career Development on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday nights.
  6. There is still time to send letters and resumes to employers at fair asking to schedule an interview at the fair. Go to Handshake and in left sidebar click on Planning – click on MN Private Colleges Job and Internship Fair Plan – scroll down to Pre-select Interviews – see the sample letter – you can use that in the body of an email to request an interview.
  7. Plan to spend 6 hours reviewing the employer list – it may not take you that long but plan that much! Use the phone app to do key word searches of employers.
  8. It will take time as many of the employers ask you to go their webpage to find their openings – so it adds time.
  9. What are you worried about for fair? It is 14 days – yes just 2 short weeks to Fair!  And next week will be busy for you – so good idea to get stuff done this week!
