Fair Update January 29 at noon Posted on January 29th, 2016 by

Fair Goers:

We are up to 188 registered!  This is great!

And – I am seeing resumes!  Thank you!

BUT – we only have 79 resumes posted on the Fair site!  If you have a resume approved on Handshake – go to mnpcfair.org – click Student Menu – click Upload Resume in white box on left.  This is a big deal because we want employers to see more Gustavus resumes than they see from other schools!

Also only 25 of you have Joined the Fair Prep Party event – that is Feb. 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 in Alumni Hall – if you do only one thing to prepare for Fair – go to that!  We want to know how many of you are attending so we have enough alumni to do mock interviews.  Note: some students have gotten interviews, internships and job offers from attending the Prep Party!

Newly Registered:

  1. Attached is the Fair booklet – with TONS of fair info.
  2. Go to Handshake and click on Planning in left sidebar. Find the MN Private Colleges Job and Internship Fair plan with LOTS of info.
  3. Download phone app – search for the MN Private Colleges Job and Internship Fair – it has a better search function than the webpage and will give you a map of where employers are the day of the fair.
  4. Go to https://careerdevelopment.blog.gustavus.edu/ for previous email messages – that will tell you about preparation.

Q: If the employers stated that they will not be conducting interviews at the MN career fair, should I still email them my resume?

A: Yes!  You are encouraged to email your resume and in “letter” – which is really the email message – instead of asking for an interview you say: “I understand that you do not plan to conduct interviews at the MN Private Colleges Job and Internship Fair.  I do want you to know that I am very interested in your organization and that I will stop at your booth to talk about your opportunities and selection process.”

Q: What additional information I should give them besides the fact that I am interested in their company?

A: For a company that is not planning to interview, you do not need to give them more than what I said above.  But, it is great to let them know why you are interested in them or what types of positions you are interested in.  But, do not over think this.  It is more important to make the connection than to not send your resume because you did not know what else to say.
