Q:
I am confused as to what I should be doing now with regards to pursuing a summer internship with the companies I am interested. For example, my top three companies are South Metro Human Services, Mental Health Resources, and Options Residential Inc. and none of these companies are doing on-site interviews. I also haven’t been able to clearly find the positions that they are looking to fill at the fair. Should I still be sending them a letter to request an interview time, or to maybe one to hear more about what they are looking for at the fair? Any tips you might have for me?!
A:
Yes, this is a problem! Employers do not always put complete info on the webpage! If enough candidates send emails maybe they will decide to post the info! See other suggestions below. Cynthia
- go to websites of employers of interest to see the types of positions they are posting there
- send them an email with resume attached requesting an interview at the fair – you can say “I am not sure what positions you will be filling, but I know that I am interested in the work that you do and have skills to contribute.”
- continue to look at the employer list and send letters and resumes to any other employers of possible interest
- prepare for interviews – use InterviewStream on Career Development webpage.
- plan to attend the fair prep party to do mock interviews
