Fair Goers:

Questions about Pre-Selects

  • Q: I uploaded my résumé to the fair site, but in an email it said we can email companies we are interested in to set up a possible interview during the second day of the fair.
    • A: TRUE! BUT PRE-SELECTS CAN BE SCHEDULE EITHER THE FIRST or SECOND DAY.  EMPLOYERS WILL LOOK AT THE UPLOADED RESUMES, BUT MANY LIKE TO SEE THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THEM BEFORE THEY CONTACT YOU.
  • Q: So do I email the emails they provide on the job fair website and attach my résumé or how do I go about that exactly?
    • A: YES!  THAT IS WHY THE EMAILS ARE PROVIDED SO YOU HAVE A PLACE TO CONNECT.  Do look at the employer info, not all will be doing pre-select interviews. If they say they will collect résumés at the fair (not scheduling pre-selects), you may still email them and tell them you plan to stop by the booth at the fair.  Again, the sample pre-select letter is in the registration booklet.  Attach your résumé with both types of letters.
  • Q: Also if I send a pre-select and set up an interview I can still go talk to them on the first day correct?
    • A: YES! THIS IS A GOOD QUESTION.  IF YOU SEND A PRE-SELECT REQUEST LETTER AND RESUME AND DO NOT HEAR BACK FROM THE EMPLOYER – STILL GO TO THEIR BOOTH AT THE FAIR.  IF YOU DID NOT SEND A LETTER BUT ARE INTERESTED STILL GO TO THE BOOTH!
  • Q: Would sending pre-selects mean sending a cover letter/résumé via email to the contact person for the companies we are interested in?
    • A: YES!  THIS IS EXACTLY RIGHT!

Dress at the Fair

Most professional dress is expected at fair.  That means: suits for all!  For internships or jobs!  Men –  you need a jacket!  Women- pants or skirt suits are fine.  And, wear comfortable shoes!  (Long day on a concrete floor is not the time for high heels.) Now is a good time get your clothes put together. Remember – you have spent a lot of time, money and energy to get to this point – do NOT go cheap on your professional look!  You want to look like a professional, not a college kid – the fastest way is by dressing as a professional!
