  • I got a question about pre-selects: Would sending pre-selects mean sending a cover letter/resume via email to the contact person for the companies we are interested in?
    • Answer: YES!  This is exactly what I mean!  Although, it would be wise to look at the employer info.  Some are saying they will collect resumes at the fair – meaning they are not planning to arrange pre-select interviews.  Some of them like to talk with people before scheduling an interview.  IF they say they will collect resumes at the fair (not scheduling pre-selects), you may still email them and tell them you plan to stop by the booth at the fair.  Again, the sample pre-select letter is in the registration booklet.  Attach your resume with both types of letters.
  • I talked to Target Finance and Retail Services today.  They will be at the fair looking for JUNIORS for internships.  See their webpage at https://corporate.target.com/careers/career-areas/financial-retail-services for info on these Target HEADQUARTER internships.
  • Target Finance and Retail Services are also planning on doing an info session here at Gustavus on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 5:00 p.m. – before the Fair Prep Party at 6:00.  So….watch for more details on that.
  • We have 73 resumes approved on GustieJobs and 44 uploaded to the fair website.  This is great!  I know some of you are working on getting your resumes done – this is a great thing!
  • Yesterday I also attached the flyer with info on the Scientific Careers Panels that will be at the fair on Wednesday at 10:00 and 11:30.  Also, there will be a 1:30 panel on Business Analytical Careers.  In some cases the panelists will be from organizations without booths at the fair.  Many of those reps do take resumes after the panels.
  • As you look at the videos on the fair website, you see that most professional dress is expected at this event.  That means: suits for all!  Men – that means you need a jacket!  Women- pants or skirt suits are fine.  Do remember that this is a long day on concrete floors.  Wear COMFORTABLE shoes!  Women – I know they look great, but NO high heels!  Your feet will kill you by the end of the day!  I am saying all of this so that you start getting your clothes in order for the fair.  Remember – you have spent a lot of time, money and energy to get to this point – do NOT go cheap on your professional look!  You want to look like a professional, not a college kid – the fastest way is by dressing as a professional!
  • If you have questions let me know!  I will share answers with the whole group.
  • Remember to look at our blog on Career Development webpage for these messages – in case your forget anything!
More soon!
