Fair Update – Feb. 7 Posted on February 7th, 2013 by

Reminder that after tomorrow there are no refunds on the fair.

The fair has more employers registered than we have had since 2008.

Epic (worldwide leader in the development of software for healthcare organizations) is doing an info session on Wed. Feb. 13 at 4:30 in Linner Lounge – before the Prep Party.

  • They look for info systems and project management – several Gusties have gotten their project management job
  • Project Manager / Implementation Consultant: Whether you’re a recent graduate or a seasoned professional, being a project manager at Epic will allow you to have a positive impact on healthcare. By managing people, timelines, processes, and the product, you’ll be on the front lines helping the most prestigious healthcare organizations in the world implement Epic software to transform patient care. Because we believe in investing quality training for employees hired from a range of non-technical and technical backgrounds, you’ll have all the tools you need to help our customers increase physician efficiency, more accurately bill patients and insurance companies, improve research capabilities, and tackle many other critical issues facing healthcare today. This is an excellent opportunity to take on management responsibilities and forge a path for yourself in a dynamic and growing industry. You’ll work on meaningful and challenging projects in an environment that values individual insight regardless of your tenure or technical background. Implementation involves a healthy balance of autonomy and collaboration, and you’ll quickly find that your colleagues are creative, fun, and have high expectations – both of themselves and of you. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree (any major) • Top-notch academics • Willingness to travel nationally 50% • Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship • Software experience is not required—we will train you to be an expert. • Relocation to the Madison, WI area is necessary and reimbursed.
  • Let me know if you plan to attend this info session

Thank you to those who have let me know that you will be at the Prep Party on Wed. Feb. 13 at 6:00 in Alum Hall. I also need to know if you want a Mock Interview. I have 20 alums coming – so there are lots of interview times available.

I had a question about references. Ask people to be a reference if they can speak to your performance as a worker, student, team member. Put your resume heading at the top of a page – name and contact info – Title it References. List the person’s name, title, organization, address, email, phone, and how they know you (coach, work supervisor, academic advisor, etc.)

Hopefully you are wrapping up getting your letters and resumes for pre-selects out this week.

Bring to the fair: list of employers you plan to talk with (have notes on questions, positions of interests etc.), resumes (20 – 40 copies on good resume paper), portfolio to carry resumes and notes and to put collected business cards, one copy of your transcript (off webadvisor is fine), 1 or 2 copies of reference page (in case anyone asks for it), what you need to get through the day.

There will be a coat check in the student lounge area. I do not recommend checking backpacks, computers etc. This event is one to travel light at.

Things to remember: no gum at fair (use breath mints), silence phones on employer floor (do not read or answer phone when talking with employers), do not sit/lay on the floor (seriously I have seen it!), MOST professional behavior at ALL times (from the time you get out of your car including restrooms – employers are everywhere seeing everything you do).

I hope you are taking time this week to prepare for successful interviewing by viewing the info available on InterviewStream. Find InterviewStream on the Career Development website – use your Gustavus email username and password to create an account. And, let me know about if you are doing mock interviews at the Prep Party.

Companies to Look at that not all candidates will: Taylor Corporation, Unum, Avant Energy, Epic, Atterro Human Capital, Buyers Support Group (www.buyerssupport.com; a local manfuacturer’s representative exclusive to Target Corporation, provides sales support, business analysis, and categeory management services for vendors and manufacturers who want to sell their product into Target; have worked with Target for almost 30 years and work with large, nationally branded manufacturers as well as vendors who produce owned-brand product. We are a small company with under 50 employees and have three offices locally including a downtown showroom.), and lots more….Look at employers that you don’t recognize – they may have great opportunities and the lines to see them will not be as long!
