Fair Update – Feb. 1 Posted on February 1st, 2013 by

1. We have 28 more employers at the fair than we had last year.

2. This means it will take you more time to look at the list and find the employers of interest to you.

3. There are more than 180 of you registered for fair. This is the most we have EVER had registered. It does mean that if you have registered recently – YOU need to read the fair blog at https://careerdevelopment.blog.gustavus.edu/search/label/MNPC%20Job%20and%20Internship%20Fair and booklet to figure out how the fair works. I am not able to explain it all to you individually. I have been sending daily messages for a month – they are all on the blog. The fair site at www.mnpcfair.orgalso has info to help you.

4. For those looking for work before continuing your education, I suggestion that you not talk to employers in terms of “taking a year off before going to school”. When you say that they think you are student – not a worker. Workers take time off to go to school. Also they do not need to know your life long goals…just your career interest areas for right now.

5. Attached is a list of the employers at fair. Those in Green might interest you with a history major. Those in blue – I do not know what they do. They yellow are good for anyone to look at. Just to give you some ideas of what to look at.  (*Check email for this – not on blog)

6. We have 95 resumes posted on www.mnpcfair.org! This is great! Note – you need to put your resume on GustieJobs AND www.mnpcfair.org. The fair site is where employers going to the fair will be looking at resumes.

7. I am seeing more alums posting jobs on www.linkedin.com in the Gustavus Alumni Group – another reason to have a profile there.

8. You will need to have your resume printed on good bond paper (resume paper) for the fair. You can get the paper in the BookMark or other paper stores. You will need 10 – 30 resumes – depending on how many employers you are interested in.

9. Sample interview questions are on InterviewStream and on pdf at: https://gustavus.edu/careercenter/pdf/Interviewing_Techniques.pdf.

More soon! Cynthia
